THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE ON EARTH
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27
“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Jn10:10 NKJV
An English newspaper once posed this question to its readers: “Who are the happiest people on earth?” These were selected as four prizewinning answers: (1) A craftsman or artist whistling over a job well done. (2) A child building sandcastles. (3) A mother, after a busy day, bathing her baby. (4) A doctor who has finished a difficult and dangerous operation and saved a human life. Notice that none of these four were necessarily millionaires, leaders of nations, celebrities, or those who have achieved high rank. True fulfillment in life is found in the course of normal daily events that give a sense of accomplishment and meaning. As W. Beran Wolfe once said, “If you observe a really happy man, you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden, or looking for dinosaur eggs in the Gobi Desert. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were...a goal in itself. He will have become aware that he is happy in the course of living twenty-four crowded hours of the day.” But there’s one thing missing in Wolfe’s list: the most important thing—Jesus! He said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ means that you find forgiveness, peace, contentment, and fulfillment in this life. As for the next life, the one that is eternal and has no end? “In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Ps16:11 NKJV).
