HEALING IN THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2
“The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.” Jas 5:15 NKJV
Let’s look at some examples of healing in the New Testament church. In Acts chapter three, Peter and John were used by God to bring healing to a crippled man who sat begging each day at the temple gate (vv.1-10). In Acts 9:33-35, we read: “A certain man named Aeneas...had been bedridden eight years and was paralyzed. And Peter said to him, ‘Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed.’ Then he arose immediately. So all who dwelt at Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord” (NKJV). Acts19:11-12 says: “God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them” (NKJV). We read that when Paul was shipwrecked and landed on the Island of Malta, “The father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him. So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed” (Ac 28:8-9 NKJV). The apostles practiced divine healing, and they also preached it. James declared: “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up” (Jas 5:14-15 NKJV). So the word for you today is pray, and believe God for your healing
